As soon as a card has been learned securely enough, the principle of spaced repetition takes over automatically.
Pauk schedules the next review based on the learning level reached and the configured review intervals.
This preserves already consolidated knowledge over the long term without unnecessary reviews.
Exam Drill
Shortly before the entered exam date, the Learning Assistant automatically switches to the exam drill.
Reviews are no longer limited to cards that are due.
Instead, Pauk systematically focuses on all content that has not yet been fully consolidated.
This intensifies the entire body of learning material once more shortly before the exam.
Always the Right Priority
The Learning Assistant continuously evaluates the current state of your entire flashcard deck.
It follows one simple principle:
During normal learning, due reviews of cards that have already been built up take priority over building up more new cards.
If important reviews are due, they are completed first.
Only then are new cards built up.
This prevents too much new content from causing previously learned knowledge to be lost again.
New Cards Are Built Up in a Controlled Way
Cards that are still at the very beginning of their learning journey receive special attention.
The Learning Assistant guides them step by step through the first learning levels.
Immediate repetitions are avoided whenever possible.
Instead of showing the same card again immediately, Pauk keeps a gap from recently shown cards whenever possible. This gap can be shortened when only a very small number of cards remains.
This requires you to recall every answer from memory again. That strengthens long-term retention.
The Learning Process Adapts Automatically
Every answer changes the subsequent learning plan.
A correct answer moves the card up one learning level and extends its review interval.
An incorrect answer returns the card to box 0 and schedules it for the following day by default.
The Learning Assistant takes these changes into account immediately and automatically adjusts the subsequent order.
This gives every card its own individual learning path.
Learning Before the Exam
The entered exam date plays a central role in the Learning Assistant.
The focus shifts shortly before the exam.
Instead of considering only regular review dates, Pauk begins targeted exam passes.
All cards that have not yet been fully consolidated now appear, regardless of their regular review date.
This means that shortly before the exam, cards are included even if their regular review date has not yet been reached.
Intelligent Learning Breaks
Efficient learning does not mean constantly showing new cards.
The Learning Assistant also recognizes when no useful review is necessary.
If all cards have been built up sufficiently, no reviews are due, and no exam drill is active, the assistant deliberately pauses.
This avoids unnecessary reviews and uses your available learning time purposefully.
